Is your town the next champion?

by Jessica Wells, NCLM Communications Specialist

Enter your town in the 2015 March Madness Hometown Showdown! Thirty-two towns will participate in the social media bracket contest, but the town with the most likes wins. The winner will earn bragging rights and prominent placement in the next Hometown Calendar!

Last year more than 60 towns entered the inaugural challenge. Concord collected 7,185 individual votes throughout the seven weeks of voting to win. Concord’s photo is an image of the 2013 Tree Lighting Ceremony and fireworks captured by Concord photographer Michael A. Anderson. Each week, the League posted photos on its Facebook page, and communities went head to head to receive the most likes on their photos.

Concord Mayor Scott Padgett said the contest was a great way to bring communities together.

"This was a friendly competition for bragging rights," Padgett said. "But winning is an example of what makes Concord so great: several organizations and thousands of people coming together to support something positive. It happens every day whether it’s pancakes in March or rubber ducks in June."

To enter, send a high-resolution photo of something your town is proud of to jwells@nclm.org by Feb. 23. It could be a monument, park or a cool project, but make sure it is clear of text, logos and at least 300 dpi. The League would also like permission to use your submission in the other publications to help show off North Carolina’s great hometowns!

Voting for the round of 32 will begin the week of March 2, and the winner will be announced the week of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship, April 10.
