League mourns Crisco death

The North Carolina League of Municipalities offers its condolences with regard to the recent passing of Keith Crisco, former secretary of the N.C. Department of Commerce.

Crisco, who was born and raised in North Carolina, was chair of the North Carolina Communities and Business Alliance and a former Asheboro City Council Member.

He had a distinguished career in both the public and private sectors. He served as a White House fellow with a position of Assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce. He also started Asheboro Elastics, which currently employs 200 people. In 2009, he was appointed as N.C. Secretary of Commerce and served until 2013. Crisco was also a member of the University of North Carolina School of Public Health Advisory Council and served as board chair for Bennett College and the North Carolina Center for Public Policy Research.

“Keith Crisco was an accomplished businessman and a dedicated public servant whose work made our state better,” said Paul Meyer, League Executive Director. “He was a humble person who spent his life working to improve the lives of others. He has been a friend to the League and an advocate for sound municipal governance. Keith’s passing is a great loss and we send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.”
