The NC Main Street Conference is the state’s largest downtown revitalization event, offering learning sessions, tours, time for downtown exploration and opportunities for networking with downtown professionals, elected officials, volunteers and consultants. Soaring with Main Street, the theme for this year’s conference in Goldsboro on March 16-18 is an exploration of North Carolina’s economic drivers and the innovative, creative downtown applications that are occurring across the state with the Main Street program. NCLM 2016 Risk Management Spring Meetings

The League’s Risk Management Services regional spring meetings are coming to a location near you. These half-day meetings will cover our financial performance, rates, and program changes, health benefit changes, supplemental medical insurance, and risk management resources for police. There is no cost to attend but, we do ask that you register so we’ll have a proper count for refreshments and handouts. Click here for dates, locations, and to register.

How Are We Doing? Evaluating Manager and Board Performance

Boards and managers work interdependently in leading and governing their communities. To work together successfully, both parties must have clear and common expectations about their respective roles and how they will be held accountable. This UNC School of Government course teaches participants how to develop a successful evaluation process and how to avoid the common pitfalls with board self-assessments and manager evaluations. There are two sessions of this course offered; one in Asheville on April 8th and the other in Greenville on April 15th. Click here to view details and register for these events.

2016 Summit: Building Communities for Tomorrow's Jobs

The N.C. Association of Regional Councils of Government will hold its 2016 Summit: Building Communities, on April 18-19 in Raleigh at the North Raleigh Hilton. A mix of government and private sector leaders will offer best practices, case studies and skill-building workshops over the two-day event. Click here to learn more.

In the News: Turn back time in Saluda

Taking a stroll along the peaceful streets of Saluda, it’s easy to be carried back into the early days of the community when residents rocked on the porches of the lovely Victorian homes and listened to the hiss of the trains that brought low country visitors up the mountain to escape the heat.
