Navigating Nonprofit-Local Government Relationships to be held December 14 in Chapel Hill and January 11 in Winston-Salem

The UNC-Chapel Hill School of Government will be hosting "Navigating Nonprofit-Local Government Relationships" on December 14, 2007, at the School of Government in Chapel Hill and on January 11, 2008 at the Winston-Salem Marriott, 425 N. Cherry Street, Winston-Salem. 

"Navigating Nonpro?t-Local Government Relationships" training is offered by staff and faculty of the School of Government, UNC Chapel Hill, as part of The Public Intersection Project.  Check out our website at www.publicintersection.unc.edu .

The public bene?ts when nonpro?t and governmental organizations join together to solve community problems. In this training, we focus on ways to design mutually responsible, successful relationships.

TO ENCOURAGE NONPROFIT PARTICIPATION, TEN SCHOLARSHIPS FOR NONPROFIT STAFF ARE AVAILABLE THAT WILL REDUCE THE TUITION FROM $175 TO $100.  These are awarded one per organization, on a first-come, first served basis.  Contact Jeanna Wood for information about the scholarships:  jhwood@sog.unc.edu or 919-962-9754

Who Should Attend:

Staff and/or elected officials of municipal and county governments and community-based nonpro?ts (including local philanthropies) who

manage applications for government funding, negotiate, review, or monitor contractual agreements between nonpro?ts and governments, wish to assess the success of their nonpro?t-government interactions, or have an interest in developing new ways of working together.

Training Objectives:

1.  Share insights on managing the diverse expectations placed on nonpro?t-local government relationships.

2.  Share practices that strengthen mutual accountability within these relationships.

3.  Discuss four common dimensions of these relationships.

4.  Share information about effective ways to contract with.

5.  Monitor nonpro?t-government relationships.

Training Hours:

9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on either Friday, December 14, 2007 or Friday, January 11, 2008.

The deadline to register for the December 14, 2007 class is November 30, 2007. The deadline to register for the January 11, 2008 class is January 4, 2008. If tuition is not received one week prior to class, that registration spot will be given to those on the waiting list.
