Local governments can develop e-recycle programs

Gov. Beverly Perdue has signed into law legislation establishing a voluntary consumer electronic equipment recycling program administered by local governments and paid for by manufacturers.

The bill creates a fund for local governments to use in providing e-recycling programs. If a county solid waste plan includes a city or town’s intention to provide an e-recycling program or if the city has its own solid waste plan, the city or town can receive funding from the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

A schedule and list of locations for DENR Electronics Recycling Workshops (which will explain how to develop and seek funding for a local E-recycle program) can be found here: http://www.p2pays.org/ElectronicsWorkshopSchedule.pdf.
