Don't miss Town Hall Day 2010

Town Hall Day, the League’s Legislative Action Day, will take place on June 16. This year’s Town Hall Day has some additional features added at the request of municipal officials who said they wanted more opportunities to meet and talk with legislative leaders. After the morning briefings, a series of meetings will be held with House and Senate leaders and committee chairs.  These meetings will be held in the Legislative Building and a schedule will be available at registration.

“We heard from members that they wanted more of chance to talk with key legislators, not just their own representatives and senators,” said Kelli H. Kukura, the NCLM director of governmental affairs. “As far as possible, given the legislative schedule of committee meetings and sessions, we are working to make that happen.”

Town Hall Day will begin with issues briefings at 9:30 and 11 a.m. at the Local Government Federal Credit Union Conference Center, Quorum Center, 323 W. Jones St. Shuttle buses will be available for transportation to and from the Quorum Center and the Legislative Building.

Municipal officials should plan meetings with members of their legislative delegations in the late morning or early afternoon before the House and Senate sessions begin.

“Everyone should plan to be in either the House or Senate gallery for the session that day,” said Kukura. “We want to demonstrate our unity and our strength.”

The day’s scheduled events will end with a 5 p.m. reception honoring members of the General Assembly. This reception will be held at the Quorum Center.

“We encourage municipal officials to consider informal dinners with their legislative delegations following the reception. These are another opportunity to talk about the issues that matter to our communities and our residents,” said Kukura.

Advance Registration fee is $40 for each municipal official; $20 for each spouse or personal guest of a municipal official. Onsite registration is $50 for each municipal official; $25 for each spouse or personal guest.
