Renovation of 1800s-era hotel could renew Elizabeth City, N.C. Outer Banks developer SAGA Construction plans to renovate The Southern Hotel in Elizabeth City similar to what it looked like in the late 1800s. The company has committed to invest $5.1 million, combined with $5.6 million in tax breaks and a downtown development grant of $500,000 awarded to the city all in effort to provide destination lodging and create additional business opportunities for the downtown area.

Garner to buy Meadowbrook Country Club for $2.9 million. The Garner Town Council decided unanimously at a work session on Tuesday to purchase the 121-acre Meadowbrook Country Club for $2.9 million, town officials said. Garner town leaders expect the property, located at 8025 Country Club Road, will be redeveloped as a park, recreational facility or open space.

Wilmington Police Department and area attorneys hold “Know Your Rights” information sessions. As troubles continue nationwide between law enforcement and citizens, the Wilmington Police department decided to hold a series of events designed to educate citizens about their rights when stopped by law enforcement officers.

Asheville wins the “What's the 'best food city' in N.C.?” contest. Thrillist, an online lifestyle directory recently compiled a list of the top cities from each state that has the best food in the state. Long lauded as one of the country's best beer towns, Asheville holds it's own in the culinary arena with restaurants like Tupelo Honey Cafe, HomeGrown, Early Girl Eatery, Rhubarb, Cúrate, and Luella's Bar-B-Que.
