Grant opportunity: Physical Activity in the Built Environment Policy Initiative

Grants up to $24,999 available to N.C. municipalities.

Deadline for submission July 9, 2010.

The North Carolina Division of Public Health is pleased to announce the Physical Activity in the Built Environment Policy Initiative Grants Program for a fifteen month period beginning in the State Fiscal Year 2010-2011. These grants, based on availability of funds, will be awarded through a competitive application process to municipalities to develop policy initiatives that help shape state policy as it relates to physical activity and health. The Physical Activity and Nutrition (PAN) Branch of the North Carolina Division of Public Health will be responsible for the administration of these grant funds.

The purpose of this RFA is to identify municipalities that will provide a local perspective to help inform state level policy on physical activity and the built environment (bike lanes, greenways, pedestrian crossings, sidewalks, trails, playgrounds etc.). The ultimate goal is to work with communities to implement policies within North Carolina governments that promote healthy environments and active lifestyles in North Carolina communities.
