Serving on a policy committee is the most direct way to participate in developing the League's advocacy priorities. Learn more about the policy development process. The following four committees consider the broad spectrum of municipal issues:
Planning & Environment Legislative Action Committee
Members of the Planning and Environment LAC consider policies related to:
- Annexation
- Building codes
- Eminent domain
- Environment (air, energy, water, wastewater, stormwater, solid waste)
- Housing
- Land use
- Ordinance enforcement
- Parks and recreation

General Government Legislative Action Committee
Members of the General Government LAC consider policies related to:
- Alcohol Beverage Control
- Elections
- Emergency response (police, fire, EMS)
- Ethics
- Information technology (broadband)
- Liability
- Open meetings
- Personnel/labor
- Public records
- Purchasing
- Retirement
- Transportation
- Utilities

Tax & Finance Legislative Action Committee
Members of the Tax and Finance LAC consider policies related to:
- Bonds/debt financing
- Budgeting/fiscal control
- Economic development
- Incentives
- Impact fees
- Interlocal financing
- Investment of government funds
- Property tax
- Public-private partnership
- Sales tax
- Special assessments
- State-collected taxes (utility franchise, beer/wine, telecommunications, video programming, solid waste tipping fee)
- Tax reform
- User charges
