Meetings and Conferences
NCLM Annual Conference
The League holds an Annual Conference each year in October, the only statewide gathering for municipal elected and appointed officials. The conference is an opportunity to come together to discuss common concerns and challenges and exchange ideas and information.
Nationally recognized experts address municipal officials on a variety of topics; state officials discuss the latest legislative and regulatory developments; and municipal officials share success stories.
In addition to the general sessions and concurrent workshops, each conference usually features a Products and Equipment Exhibit. Hundreds of companies and professional firms display the latest in goods and services of interest to municipal officials.
The annual business meeting of the NC League of Municipalities is held during the conference. During this meeting, delegates, representing the League's member cities and towns, discuss and adopt legislative goals and policies for the upcoming year. They also elect officers and members of the NCLM Board of Directors.
Some of the League's affiliate organizations and constituency groups, typically the NC Black Elected Municipal Officials, NC Women In Municipal Government, the NC Association of Municipal clerks, and the NC Association of Resort Towns and Convention Cities, meet during the League conference.
The League and the host city plan special activities for the spouses and personal guests of municipal delegates.
League conferences rotate among a number of NC cities, including Asheville, Winston-Salem, Durham, Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro and Fayetteville.

Municipal officials visit the General Assembly, attend legislative committee meetings, House and Senate sessions and meet with their legislators to discuss municipal issues. In the afternoon, there is a legislative briefing on the status of key issues, and legislative leaders address the municipal officials. Town Hall Day ends with a reception honoring legislators.

Regional Mini-Conferences
Each spring, League officials travel the state to discuss legislative and League issues with municipal officials. These six to eight meeting are held in locations throughout the state, generally in late March and in April. The regional mini-conferences give local officials the chance to learn about League activities, include the Risk Management Services insurance programs, as well as hear update on state and federal legislative efforts. In turn, local officials tell League staff how issues are likely to impact their communities.
Dates and locations for regional mini-conferences are generally set by January of each year.
Claims, Risk Management, Wellness and other workshops
In the fall and spring, other workshops series usually are offered - a series of claims workshops in the fall for those enrolled in NCLM Risk Management Services Programs, wellness idea exchange meetings for wellness program coordinators, and other risk management workshops. The idea is to bring workshops to convenient locations throughout the state, so local officials will have easy access to valuable workshops at a very low cost.
The League also sponsors or co-sponsors many training programs. For more on these, please see training section.
