Research
The League's research efforts provide data to help cities and towns in the daily operations and long-range planning. For example, an annual analysis on municipal revenues estimates whether certain revenues will rise, fall or remain the same. The League conducts surveys on municipal salaries, fringe benefits, solid waste practices, water and sewer charges and policies, tax rates and other aspects of municipal operations.
Survey and research results are made available to member municipalities, either in reports or online.
Another aspect of NCLM research is the extensive analysis of legislative proposals. Whenever legislation affecting cities and towns is introduced, the League analyzes its potential effect on municipalities. Often, this analysis requires extensive research related to municipal finances and revenue sources.
