Inquiries

The questions may arrive by email these days but answering them is one of the longest-running services of the League. Almost since its inception in 1908, the League has offered an inquiry service. The questions have come by letter, by telephone, by fax and by email and in person. Many are routine, but some require considerable research. The inquiry service is available to both elected and appointed officials from any NCLM member municipality.

The League staff includes attorneys who are familiar with municipal law, and individuals with experience in management, human resources, regulatory matters, emergency management and other areas. But the League does not have expertise in every aspect of municipal operations. If an NCLM staff member cannot answer a question, the municipal official will be referred to the appropriate agency or organization that can provide assistance.
