The Legal Affairs Department is responsible for providing internal legal advice and assistance to other League departments, providing support to the legislative advocacy programs, and providing several forms of legal assistance to League members.

Chief counsel for the League. Oversees legal assistance to member cities and towns, including inquiry service, charter revisions, model ordinances, legal memoranda and publications. Directs legal research activities and amicus brief program. Oversees various internal legal matters and coordinates provision of staff legal assistance to other departments and operations. Provides legal advice and drafting assistance in legislative advocacy and policy development process. Makes educational presentations on legal topics to the membership, affiliate organizations and others. Staff to N.C. Association of Municipal Attorneys.

Provides variety of legal assistance to member cities and towns, including responding to legal inquiries, performing research, and drafting legal memoranda, model ordinances and charter revisions. Works on a variety of internal legal matters, including contract drafting and review, ethics and lobbying reports and support of debt setoff program and Local Leadership Foundation. Performs legal research and drafting in support of advocacy programs. Makes educational presentations on legal topics to membership, affiliate organizations and others. Prepares League publications, including Digest of Municipal Law. Drafts amicus briefs on behalf of the League in cases of statewide municipal interest. Staff to the N.C. Association of Municipal Clerks.

Provides variety of legal assistance to member cities and towns, including responding to legal inquiries, performing research, and drafting legal memoranda, model ordinances and charter revisions. Works on internal legal matters in support of risk management services. Performs legal research and drafting in support of advocacy programs. Makes educational presentations on legal topics to membership, affiliate organizations and others. Prepares League publications, including Municipal Law Notes and Digest of Municipal Law. Coordinates development of CLE programming for N.C. Association of Municipal Attorneys.
