The League's legal and legislative programs assist cities and towns in all phases of municipal operations.

A key aspect of the League's mission is to provide a unified voice for municipalities. Our advocacy programs represent the municipal viewpoint at the state and federal level in lawmaking, regulatory matters and in the state appellate courts.

The heart of the legal assistance program is the inquiry service. Municipal officials receive consultations by phone and in person. Sometime, an NCLM attorney will make a presentation to a governing board. Often the consultation is between the city or town attorney and a league attorney. Where appropriate, League attorneys furnish sample or model ordinances. Some questions are relatively simple, while others require extensive legal research.
