Advocacy Goals Conference

Municipal officials vote at the 2011 Advocacy Goals Conference in Raleigh.

Municipal megaphone

The collective voice of North Carolina's cities and towns amplifies and reaches a fever pitch at the biennial Advocacy Goals Conference. This day is a time for all League members to gather for debate over their legislative and regulatory priorities. The end result is the Municipal Advocacy Goals and Core Municipal Principles -- priority goals for the state's cities and towns.

One voice to thousands

The goals up for debate begin with one town's idea. In the year leading up to the Advocacy Goals Conference, League members submit their ideas to the League policy committees for study and consideration. These committees make a recommendation to the NCLM Board of Directors, who then submits a package of goals to the League membership for review.

Before the debate and final voting, League members have one more opportunity to submit goal suggestions. Then, League members narrow all these goals down to the final Municipal Advocacy Goals.
